Getting Started
The NIC strongly encourages participation by any Indiana University faculty member. We emphasize free and easy access of the NIC instruments to individual investigators. To get started first contact any of the three Co-directors by phone, surface mail or e-mail. Initial contact will be followed by submission of a one page general description of the investigatorŐs research with a paragraph explaining how the NIC instrumentation will be used. This brief proposal will be evaluated by the Co-directors. Initially, to test the feasibility of the proposed application, there will be no charge for equipment use. In general, researchers will use the equipment on their own after a training session with the appropriate Co-director. The Center does not have the resources to run the researcherŐs experiments. The main purpose of the initial experimentation is to develop preliminary data for a grant proposal. The Co-directors will assist the researcher in preparing appropriate sections of the new grant application including support letters, instrument description and data interpretation.
It is anticipated that the NIC will become self sustaining via user fees. The user fees will always be kept low and will be waived for initial applications. The Co-directors are currently developing a fee schedule that will be in place in 2005. An instrument sign-up sheet will be available on the NIC Web site.
The NIC is new and significant additional instrumentation is anticipated. Any additions to the NIC will be posted on the Web site
